In March 2026, BrainMind convened Asilomar for the Brain and Mind at the Asilomar Conference Grounds.
More than 250 participants took part. The group included founders, investors, clinicians, policymakers, researchers, and individuals with lived experience. The structure of the meeting was designed so that these groups worked together directly rather than in parallel.
The goal was to develop tools that could be used during active development, investment, and deployment of neurotechnology.
Next Steps
The work has entered an implementation phase.
Participants are applying these tools within investment processes, company operations, and governance contexts. This includes testing diligence frameworks in active transactions, piloting governance tools within organizations, and integrating early-stage resources into product development and research workflows.
Working groups are convening follow-on sessions to refine outputs with additional contributors. Participation is expanding to include individuals with relevant domain expertise and implementation experience.
The current focus is on evaluating how these tools perform under real-world conditions, including operational constraints, commercial pressures, and evolving regulatory environments.
This work will reconvene at JPM 2027.
The discussion will center on implementation progress, including which tools have been adopted, how they have been applied, and where further development is required.
The objective is to support broader adoption across the neurotechnology ecosystem.
Get Involved
Working groups remain active and open to additional contributors.
Participants are engaging at different stages, including drafting, iteration, and applied testing.
Individuals whose work intersects with neurotechnology development, investment, governance, or lived experience are invited to join ongoing efforts or follow progress.

What took place?
The meeting ran as a set of working sessions.
Each group focused on a specific gap between existing neuroethics principles and real-world decision making. Participants worked through scenarios drawn from product development, clinical use, investment processes, and governance.
The output of these sessions is not a set of recommendations. It is a set of tools under active development.
Working Groups
Each working group is continuing beyond the meeting with defined outputs and timelines.
